Redirect Chain Checker

Follow redirect chains and see every hop along the way.

Redirect Best Practices

  • 301: Permanent redirect - passes most link equity
  • 302: Temporary redirect - use sparingly for SEO
  • 307/308: Preserve HTTP method - used for specific scenarios
  • • Keep redirect chains to 1-2 hops maximum
  • • Avoid redirect loops - they break crawling and user experience

How to Use

  1. 1 Enter the URL you want to check for redirects
  2. 2 Click "Check" to follow the redirect chain
  3. 3 See each hop in the chain with its status code
  4. 4 Identify any redirect loops or broken chains
  5. 5 See the final destination URL

Why Redirect Chains Matter

Each redirect in a chain adds latency and can dilute link equity. Google recommends keeping redirect chains as short as possible - ideally just one hop from the old URL to the new one.

Status Codes Explained

  • 200 Final destination reached
  • 301 Permanent redirect (passes link equity)
  • 302 Temporary redirect (may not pass equity)
  • 404 Page not found (broken)
