  • • Use language + region codes when targeting specific countries (e.g., en-GB, en-US)
  • • Use language-only codes for general language targeting (e.g., en, es)
  • • Always include self-referencing hreflang tags on each page
  • • x-default should point to your main/fallback page for unmatched visitors
  • • Hreflang is reciprocal: if page A references page B, page B must reference page A
  • • For large sites, implement via XML sitemap rather than HTML tags

How to Use

  1. 1 For each language version of your page, select the language and optional region
  2. 2 Enter the full URL for each language variant
  3. 3 Add more variants using the "Add Language Variant" button
  4. 4 Optionally set an x-default URL for users with no language match
  5. 5 Choose HTML or XML format and copy the generated code

Hreflang Examples

  • en-GB - English for United Kingdom
  • en-US - English for United States
  • en - English (any region)
  • de-AT - German for Austria
  • x-default - Fallback for unmatched visitors

Important Notes

Hreflang tags must be reciprocal - every page must link back to every other variant, including itself. This tool generates the complete set for one page; you'll need to add the appropriate tags to each language version.
