Frequently asked questions
- Does my CSV need a specific column name?
- The tool looks for a column named 'keyword' in any letter case. If none exists it silently falls back to the first column in the file, so a CSV with the keywords in a later column will load the wrong data without any error. Either name your column 'keyword' or put it first.
- Is monthly trend data included in the download?
- Yes, in the exports but not on screen. The API's monthly search history is flattened into a 'Monthly Searches' column (year-month: volume pairs separated by semicolons) which is included in both the CSV and Excel downloads, but the on-screen table only shows volume, CPC, competition, competition index and the top-of-page bids.
- What happens if the API returns an error partway through?
- The whole run is abandoned. Keywords are sent in batches of 700, and any batch that gets an error response makes the function return nothing, discarding the batches that already succeeded. With very large lists, consider splitting the input so one bad batch does not cost you the lot.
- How is API usage charged?
- DataForSEO charges per request, not per keyword, so batching up to 700 keywords per call keeps cost down. The tool shows how many requests a run will use before you click Get Search Volume, and sleeps 5 seconds between batches to stay within the 12 requests per minute rate limit.
- Can I change the currency for CPC values?
- No. CPC, and the low and high top-of-page bids, are returned in USD regardless of the country you select. The country choice (12 options) sets the location and language codes for the volume data, not the currency.
